The hurdy-gurdy emits a tone right at home in these rural environs, akin to an off-kilter fiddle mimicking a scraped guitar one second, and perhaps an ancient organ wash the next. The first spin of the album may elicit a glance around the room until the realization hits that it’s “Tia In The Rocking Chair,” at night among the crickets.

They are a French Trio (vocals, guitar, fife and hurdy gurdy). They made a trip to Mississippi to record various tracks on this CD with the children of Mississippi blues legends. (Sadly the “children” were not at their showcase but they still rocked it. – Check out Youtube). I brought home this CD (their 1st release) and love it/5(6).

This was my first hurdy-gurdy cd bought back in the late 80's when it first came out. I didn't like it:) BUT like all fine things it has grown on me. The recording displays a very impressive level of technical mastery, it is very nicely and meticulously recorded with good liner notes; perfect/5(10).

The hurdy-gurdy was frequently used to accompany the chansons de geste with instrumental preludes and interludes and, when appropriate, to double the vocal line. Although the hurdy-gurdy found many supporters in secular life during the fifteenth century, there is evidence from various depictions that it was still popular in religious circles.

Mar 24,  · Hurdy Gurdy emerged from the Danish group Peter Belli and the Boom Boom Brothers (aka The B.B. Brothers) in June , when three members of the B.B. Brothers, guitarist Claus Bøhling, drummer Jens Otzen and British vocalist and bassist Mac MacLeod formed the power trio. Inspired by Cream but with more psychedelic leanings, they split from Peter Belli and MacLeod named the band 'Hurdy Gurdy'.
